Ambrose Property Group purchases site of former Navistar plant

Redevelopment will bring new business to east side Indianapolis neighborhood

INDIANAPOLIS– A 90-acre site on the east side of Indianapolis that was once home to major industrial manufacturing will soon be revitalized and redeveloped following its purchase by Ambrose Property Group, the company announced today. For over 80 years, the site was known as Indianapolis Works, International Harvester Company and Navistar International Corporation and served as an employment anchor for the surrounding neighborhoods. However, the industrially zoned property has been dormant since Navistar officially ceased operations in 2015 and the plant was demolished in 2018.

“For many years, this industrial property was a centerpiece of Indianapolis’s east side neighborhoods,” said Grant Goldman, Ambrose executive vice president of development. “We look forward to the opportunity to redevelop the site as a hub for manufacturing and logistics businesses that brings new life into a site that has sat vacant for the last five years.”

In the years since Navistar closed, various planning efforts have recommended new industrial uses at the property, including the Indy FastTrack Study and Plan 2020, which were drafted by the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee and the City of Indianapolis.

The new park, which will be called Indianapolis Central Logistics Park, is ideally positioned for logistics and manufacturing. It offers several advantages for businesses, including being located less than five miles from downtown Indianapolis and just two miles from I-465 and I-74. Construction is set to begin in late 2020.

“Indianapolis Central Logistics Park will bring new, state-of-the-art, Class A buildings to the site,” said Goldman. “More than that, it will bring new jobs and economic opportunities to the residents of the east side. It is our goal to be great partners to the surrounding neighborhoods of Irvington, Christian Park and Glenroy Village, and we look forward to revitalizing this site both with and for them.”

Earlier this month, Ambrose announced the groundbreaking of Building II at its Mount Comfort Logistics Center in the Mount Comfort Corridor of Hancock County, as well as the new Westpoint Business Park in Monrovia. Outside of the greater Indianapolis-area, Ambrose continues to expand its logistics portfolio, with projects underway in Ohio, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.
